limited edition recycled cassette + zine
To mark the release of this EP I’m doing something I’ve never done before. I’m putting out 150 limited edition (recycled plastic) cassettes with 250 limited edition (recycled paper) zines. And page 6 of each zine holds a tiny bit of tinfoil that was used in the I Am Disaster stop-motion music video.
I’d to thank Brad from Singing Light as he’s not only been helping me put this music out, but he also introduced me to a very talented artist called Du Blonde. (Please check her out - you won’t be disappointed). Du Blonde runs a very cool indie label called Daemon TV who support artists in making beautiful merch, zines and clothing. The cassettes that she’s released are really satisfying collectibles - I don’t even have the means of playing a cassette at the moment, but I love it as an object, I used to make a weekly mixtape of me MCing over drum’n’bass when I was 16 and there’s a nice correlation with the EP as Angus Kemp, my producer, ran some of the tracks through tape decks to give a wonky warmth to the mix.
The zine is a glorified lyrics booklet full of all the imagery that I’ve made to go with the EP (and the tinfoil keepsake). I’ve also included a short piece of writing which describes how this project came into being, my climate anxiety and looking at the next EP which will be an exploration into my thoughts and feelings around the death of Chucks, my bandmate from The Correspondents for more than 13 years.
I’ve giving 20% of the profits of the cassette and zine to The Environmental Justice Foundation. They focus particularly on the rights of climate refugees and their work is incredible.
